John Blatteau Associates is an architectural firm comprising fifteen architects and business people in Center City, Philadelphia. The firm provides a broad range of historical and classical architectural services for financial, corporate, educational and health care clients. Numerous clients include The United States Department of State, Washington, DC; The Forbes Museum, New York, New York; The Riggs Bank, Washington, DC; Saint Joseph’s Preparatory School, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; The Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Brooklyn, New York; The Wagner Free Institute of Science, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, New Jersey.
Since our establishment in 1983, John Blatteau Associates has been creating new architecture and restoration that clearly show the beautiful and efficient possibilities for the application of classical design principles today. The renewed professional and lay interest in the classical past owes much to the work of John Blatteau and his firm. His belief in the enduring beauty and timeless quality of classical architecture and its suitability in today’s world is the basis for all of the work of the firm.
The firm’s design approach to any project begins with an understanding of each client’s mission, their specific operational culture and the community that they serve. We have demonstrated this approach through the firm’s long standing and on-going relationship with The Riggs Bank of Washington, DC. Begun in 1985, this relationship has resulted in the completion of more than $75 million of new construction and restoration of the Bank’s public offices and corporate headquarters. We design all of our work with the goal of creating excellent working environments and public spaces which are firmly based on classical design principles.
Another important client, Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey, represents an entirely different operational culture. Our work for them began more than 12 years ago and has developed into a long and successful collaboration. During this period, we have renovated and reconfigured more than 200,000 square feet of their existing facility. We have recently completed a 14,000 square foot comprehensive Cancer Care Center. This center, as well as the rest of our work for Saint Barnabas also expresses the classical basis which underlies the work of the firm.
As a small business, the firm can offer multiple services and still give personal attention. John Blatteau Associates is large enough to respond quickly to project requirements, yet small enough so that every project receives hands-on principal participation throughout the design process.
