The F&M branch
of the Riggs Bank is a creative recreation, not a restoration. This is
specialty of JBA Interiors. The building exterior was historical but
the interior had been totally altered and destroyed. No photographic
record existed so our task was to imagine and recreate what might have
existed. |

The mezzanine, open
to the banking floor below, contains several informal seating
areas as well as work space for the banking officers. This arrangement
allows banking transactions to be made in either a comfortable informal
environment or
a structured office setting. The formal drapery
treatments and Regency style furniture, complement the faux finished
columns and architectural details. |

The restoration of
this conference room included revitalizing the existing skylight and modifying
existing details. The walls, upholstered in a rich red damask,
complement the leather chairs made in England, and provide a dramatic
background for the portrait of the founder which was commissioned for
the room. The finished room conveys the distinct feeling that it has
developed and evolved over time rather than being created all at once. |
