The Paul Cushman III International Financial Center is the product of years of planning and design for this important site on the northern edge of DuPont Circle in Washington DC. |
In the early 1990's The Riggs Bank planned to build a new Office Complex to house their administrative functions. This project was never executed. A model of the design is illustrated in the Time Line section of our web page. | |
|
The site for the Paul Cushman III Financial Center is on the south side of Connecticut Avenue, just to the north of DuPont Circle. It consists of the existing DuPont Circle Office and a row of historic townhouses, all designed in the 1920's by the noted Washington DC architect, George Ray. There was also one empty lot on the northern edge of the site. |

Our design consisted of the restoration of the existing two story commercial structures and the addition of a New Entry Pavilion on the empty lot at the northern edge of the site. This new Pavilion is designed to complete the block and to relate to it's older neighbors. |

The New Entry Pavilion reflects the Classical character of the DuPont Circle area and the Connecticut Avenue commercial corridor. On the exterior, it is a restrained exercise in the Georgian Style, with it's limestone and granite facades. |

The New Entry Pavilion is generously scaled on the interior. It is finished in plaster with Doric Pilasters surrounding the whole of the main space. Arch windows, with elegant curtain treatments, look out on the Metro entrance. The Custom desk complements the wood floor. |
